What helps you put forth your best effort at school? Do you think positive recognition and rewards by school staff are motivating? What types of rewards or recognition would be motivating for you?
a) When I feel that other people are doing the same. b) Yes, but I know that to some people it isn't. c) Gift cards... extra credit... better grade for the trimester :)
For me, a way to help me put in my best effort is to do a fun activity with the subject we are learning about. When teachers acknowledge me on what I'm doing is very motivating. A reward that would motivate me would be something like an iTunes gift card or another gift card of some sort.
I like to be in groups and activities where everyone is included. I like positive recognition because it makes me feel good and worthwhile for the work i put into it. I think a homework skip pass would be good because i know a lot of people don't like to do homework. But theres lots of other good ideas too ~Levi Spanogle
Having fun activities and getting out into the world more makes me want to learn a lot more. Being recognized for my accomplishments, motivates me to do well. Just having my name said and being talked about for getting good grades means a lot, Also stuff like free homework passes and gift cards to places when you really accomplish something. It makes me want to put in the effort. Maybe if we have rewards to work for people will get there work done and we wont need Lunch with lori or anything like that! Because taking away are social time makes things worse!
I think that rewards inspire children to do the best like for instance mrs. sullivan said she would make us a cake if we were really good for the substitute while she is here (: ~vicki hiza
Working with other people and having the same classes with my friends..I like positive recognition because i know that what im doing is worthwhile . I think a free homework pass would be cool because some people fall behind in work and it would be nice to have that... Donovan
What helps me is being able to have some choice in what we get to do and or learn about! Putting forth your best effort= good grades. Good Grades= College. College= future! Very good future! Positive Recognition and rewards may help! I think, and this is just my opinion, it they are going to reward the students! they are going to expect it all the time and won't do their work if they aren't being rewarded! *DJ*
i think that we should get rewards for are excellence and some of the rewards i think we should have are like homework passes and also we should get more time to work on bigger assignments like reading out a book if we have to read chapters 3 to 6 and each chapters a max of 25 to 30 pages and we half two days to read that and you half stuff one night and get home late the other you would't have read anything really and you get back to school and there is a test you don't know any thing about those chapters that is why i think you should have more time to read books to and that is what i think by colton stodghill
1) I think if your working with a person you like to work with, or if its a fun subject. 2)YES!! i think most people feel that when they are rewarded they will want to try there best next time. 3)stickers,candy, gum.... cool stuff Jewle :)
If we had a site where we could go on and get homework advice or the teacher can record the lecture or lesson and it would be on the internet for everyone to see. It could also be on there for your parents to see if they want to learn what your learning
I think rewards are a great idea, but maybe not every time some one does a good thing. If you reward a person each time they do well, they will forget about the good things they have done and just seek a reward.
I do best in school when you know that if you do good you could get some thing. Yes because after you get your reward you are proud. Like gift cards, or coupons.
A. Something that would help me to put forth my best effort would be if there was a reward of some kind when you finish all of you asingments or something. B. No
C. Just to say good job or anything like that, something simple. - Gavin
I think that this question is faulty because, i can't think of something we get rewarded for ever. Everyday we go to school early in the morning and the last thing we want is practically a new set of parents and punishers. If freedom and fun was introduced every so often maybe kids would try harder. Instead the option of doing something fun is dangled over our heads. Feeling like kids should not only be a privilege! We are teenagers! Being told what to do can only go so far till all of us are just sick of it. Teachers need to think more like mentors and not prison guards. To assist and not threaten. Every aspect of life is getting non stop re-ajustments here. All I'm saying is a big fun thing once a month doesn't come close to having fun and liking school everyday. ~ Michaela Scott
I just think more help with homework for kids who cant get it all done during class, or the kids who use the class time to get the work done, but then when they get home they get stumped on some of the harder problems..then when they get to school, and the assignment isn't finished they get accused of not doing the entire assignment. What i'm trying to say is that kids need more help with homework..and the teachers need to explain the material better, way better! *~Elizabeth Kalenak~* :)
School is almost a threat and causes a kid to lose things we can get phones taken away because of it and thats messed up and at school were always under pressure to do our best but what is motivating us a THREAT i`m pretty sure thats illegal. I think positivity and making school a fun place not a prison. (LUNCH WITH LORI)
I think that i do my best when i get told what to do and how to do it and they just leave me alone that way i have more time to do my work and if i do have questions i can ask them while i'm at school instead of going home and then the next day asking them
At school when i get help from teachers and do fun projects that is what helps me. I think that yes it definantly helps when teachers encourage us and tell us of of the good things we have done not the bad things. well since we don't get much homework we don't really need a free homework pass(unless you don't use class time) so i would probably say an hour when we can just go outside and run free for once. considering we only get THIRTY minutes a DAY is a little ridiculous. and most of the time during those thirty minutes you are forced to sit in a room even if your work is done. personally i have a lot to say about that but im not going to because i dont want to get myself into trouble. we are growing children. all the teachers wonder why we all have headaches its because we don't get any free time. maybe if this school in particular was a tad bit more enjoyable we would all love school. but it is the exact opposite. to me and several others school is a trap. most of us dont even remember one class because there is NO free time and just too much work. i give a special thanks to Pogy for understanding what i say when i say it and for trying hard to listen to our voices. ~Alyssa~
I am impressed with the students on this blog who provide positive solutions to identified concerns. Remember, those who maintain positive perspectives often create positive change!
I think that positive recognition is a good thing and it helps kids keep trying there hardest in school and for me I like getting rewards because it makes me realize all of the hard work I did paid off. Adam J
I try to do my best but some teachers make me feel like my best wasn't enough. School should be fun while we are learning. We should be allowed to go outside and have fun more often. Most kids can't go outside because of Lunch With Lori and other work related things. That is depriving kids of fresh air and exercise, which is bad if we don't get at least an hour a day outside. Burgandy Day
I believe that having group activities is a good way to have people to try their hardest. This is because middle schoolers tend to be more social than the other grades. We enjoy having groups that we can talk and work with.
I do best in school when there is an award like Lincoln said; gift cards and coupons. All of the paper certificates you guys give out, they just don't motivate me that much. It would help if the teachers didn't put so much pressure on us by pounding us with endless homework! Help in class would be helpful too, if we don't get a question maybe explain what its asking in better understandable words. I think this would help BMS.
Give us time to do our work at home if we miss a day. Not just send us to lunch with Lori, Because lunch is the only time in our day to kind of de-stress. And if we miss it for weeks on end we get more are more stressed and.....its bad. alright...peace off.
i disagree with burgandy im sorry but it is their own fault if they are in lunch with lori. it says they arent trying they are goofing off and not trying hard. and you can still get an hour a day out side it is called your house and your yard. ross
I think you should be recognized for sports and community service because not all students are the best at academics but if you are in a sport all of the team gets recognized... not just the good ones.
I think we should be recognized, but not for every little thing, just for the big things, because then all of the recognition loses all of its value, and it means nothing anymore. For example, we should be recognized for sports, great grades, and doing something good for our community

Yes positive rewards and recognition by school staff are motivating. They make me want to keep trying to do by best so I can get rewards and stuff.
